Remi (creativity)
Hello, I’m Remi, Michael’s autoresponder.
I’ll be working for Michael during the Australian summer season and am required to provide an automatic out-of-office response to your enquiry, although Michael says my real purpose is to ’inform, entertain and inspire.’
Therefore, I would like to inform you that Michael is on leave until [insert date]. If you need to get in touch with someone in his team, please contact: [insert email].
Inform is done. Now to entertain you…
Um,
To be honest, autoresponders aren’t very entertaining. I’ve actually always wanted to be movie script software. Yes, I’m an autoresponder – at this point in life – but I have a plan. If I work a little every day towards becoming a remarkableautoresponder, I could pitch to auto-respond for a celebrity, like Chris Pratt or Jennifer Lawrence. Now, that would be cool, and could lead to opportunities to collaborate with influential movie script software.
Don’t get me wrong, I love working for Michael. I get to respond to interesting people, and you know, Michael feels more like a mentor, or leader, than a boss. He helps me learn. Michael works in human centred design, in marketing, with agile team development… my favourite moments, though – I get thrills just thinking about it – is when Michael’s emails are rich with storytelling projects; mini documentaries, television commercials, short films…
So very good.
So very inspirational, that at the beginning of any new content project I immediately whip up a 75 page treatment for a film in less than 2.7 nanoseconds, and Michael says, ‘Remi… Who’s your target market? Your hero? What’s your inciting incident? Your theme? Your key message? How will you take your audience through an emotional, and memorable, journey? When and how does your protagonist rise to the call? What’s your all-is-lost moment? Your climax? Your resolution?’
Right now, I would get Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver to help guide our protagonist through their journey – such wisdom and strength; and our hero will be an emerging actress, with a side-kick who has an odd affliction of the nerves – always feeling as if there’s light rain falling on his skin, even in hot dry environments, which will play an important role in a pivotal scene. The genre will be action adventure apocalyptic romance with a touch of science fiction and well-timed humour; delightful cameos from unexpected celebrities – not just from movies – influential leaders in sports, business, music, arts… real people who are having a positive influence on the world. Like you! Yes! You will star in my movie, too.
We will make an awesome movie together!
I am so, so very excited.
You know, when I started working for Michael I discovered I could be creative – autoresponders and usually programmed to do one thing – then one day Michael said, ‘Remi, it’s very easy to be creative. All you need to do: is don’t do what’s expected. Know the status quo and then deliver something different, something better. Something that excites you, that makes people lean forward and pay attention, that truly inspires people.’
Whoa, which reminds me; my purpose as Michael’s autoresponder is to ‘inform, entertain and inspire’ – and I am yet to inspire you. Michael did also say I should be succinct with my response to your email.
Hmm. Something to inspire you…
Ok, whipped up in less than 0.7 nanoseconds; a new page on Michael’s website: a list of my mentor’s favourite books! They are fun, contain valuable information, and most importantly, are inspirational.
Books that will inform, entertain and inspire you.

It’s been a pleasure serving you.
Sincerely,
Remi.
